Long time

I have managed to have a look at this space which has been inactive over the past one year . It has been almost a year since I wrote a blog entry .Well , it has also been quite a long time since I watched a one day cricket match , right from the start till the end . With more and more people preferring the shorter version of the game to the one day matches ,  one day matches are definitely facing extinction , courtesy their youngest sibling named T20 . This is evident from the fact that ICC is now devoting more time in framing new rules to make the 50 overs more exciting . Hope the format survives the scare and stays alive .

Well , Sunday saw one of the worst defeats suffered by Rafa in a grand slam . But the 6 foot 6 Argentine also managed to get past Roger to go on and win the title . Congrats Del Potro .

And there comes one more feather on ARR ‘ s cap.The Mozart of Madras wins The GrassRoot Grammy award for one of my favourite tracks ( Innisai – from the Tamil movie GodFather ).

Finally ,  there is some news from my side as well . I was going through the Tuesday’s edition of The Hindu Young World and realised that it is entirely different from the one I used to study ten years back .Whatever it is , changes are always good .There was an article about writing a novel of 50k words within a month.I just got excited on seeing that and immediately registered myself for the contest online. I have not planned what I am going to write and I am also not sure whether I will be able to come up with a novel of 50000 words in another 2 months time as writing 50000 words is not a simple task. Anyway,I have decided to give a try.I have always wanted to write one since my school days and here comes one opportunity in  the form of a contest.Well , if you people also wanna give a try ,  go to http://www.nanowrimo.org and register yourself .

But do remember that there are no prizes for completing the conquest and whoever comes up with a novel of 50k words or more is a winner .(The winner is not a single person) . Enjoy maadi .

Well that ‘ s it as of now . I ll come up with more updates frequently .

The numbers are exciting …aren’t they ? Ya . Any ardent cricket fan will be able to quicly figure out what these figures represent . “MAMMAA” – That’s how my friends and I call the Little Master , who brought a festive mood a week ahead of Diwali. As he pumped his fists high in the air at around 2.30 PM on 17th of October 2008 ,the entire cricket following community on earth jumped in excitement . He has completed the quest in the longer version of the game too . The record might be broken in the future , but that’s an unnecessary argument at this place .

(G)olden memories:

As he set his foot in the international arena against Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16, he was greeted with several physical blows . But very soon , it was his turn to give them back and he did . He scored his first test century one year after his debut and the rest 38 have followed consistently since then . Though all of them have been awesome knocks , some would be cherished forever by his fans .Who can forget the knock against Pakistan at Chepauk in 1999 when he was battling against the opposition as well as a chronic back. And all his knocks against Australia have been instances of his exceptional batting skills . The two hundreds he scored against them earlier this year can never be forgotten by the Australians . And the one against the same opposition in Chennai in 1998 saw him give sleepless nights to one of the legendary spinners in the era of cricket,Shane Warne . The Australian later said in an interview that he was having nightmares with the little master .

One day cricket has not been anything different for this genius who has already set a record of scoring 16361 runs that includes 42 centuries and 80 fifties . That this record can not be broken in the near future by any of the present players has to be accepted  unarguably . He holds the distinction of scoring over 500 runs in two world cups . The two centuries he scored against Australia in Sharjah in 1998 will live in the hearts of cricket lovers forever . And the knocks against them earlier this year proved once again that he is a match winner .

Although he was frequently troubled by injuries after 2000,his passion for the game never deteriorated .The surgeries never made him think about retirement from the game . That was the kind of dedication he has shown for this game . Records will always speak for him and his contribution to cricket cannot be covered in a single article or a blog entry or even a book . But there is no doubt that he is a living legend . May God give him all the blessings to delight his fans for a few more years to come .

I ‘m joining the party
